Street People – Gotta Get Back With You

I’ve been staring at this LP for a couple weeks on my floor and decided that I needed to toss something from it up on the site.  Hopefully I’ll get time to rip a track off of it for you.  Enjoy!

Marva King – Feels Right

Posted in Music with tags , , , on 05/20/2012 by DJ Yeah Right

As I was going through my “recently purchased” stack this beautiful sunday morning, I found this LP from Marva King.  Feels Right is both the title track and the standout of the whole album.  The beautiful synths and layered harmonies move around a staccato slap-bass line in a way that diminishes neither.  This was the first of two solo albums that Marva would release before and after her tenure in Prince’s New Power Generation in the ninties.  This release arrived in 1981 on Planet Records (home, most notably, to the Pointer Sisters in the 1980′s), while her follow up, entitled Soul Sistah, came in 2006 on Expansion records.  Please Enjoy!

Ballin’ Jack – Found a Child

Here is a little funk rock from 1970 in the vein of War or Santana, which is funny because the two founding members went on to play with each of those groups later in the 1970′s.  You may will recognize the middle of the song as one of the best samples in the history of hip-hop.  Lean back, get groovy and enjoy.

Archie Bell & The Drells – Glad You Could Make It

Posted in Music with tags , , , on 05/09/2012 by DJ Yeah Right

Time had no effect on slowing down Archie Bell’s desire to compel people to get up and dance and/or get down. Although the lyrical gist of this track is no more than “nice to see you here! Please dance to this music”, the groove is well equipped to make you fall right into its clutches. Please enjoy a little dose of late-era Archie Bell and the Drells.
